Functions of Union Parishad

* To maintain law and order and help the administration in this regard.
* To take various measures to prevent crime and smuggling.
* Agriculture, plantation, fishery and livestock health, cottage industries, irrigation, communication.
* Extending family planning activities.
* Promote local resources and ensure its use.
* Protection of public property like roads, bridges, culverts, gaps, canals, telephones, electricity etc.
* Review the development activities of other organizations at the union level and, if necessary, it is recommended to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
* Encouraging the people to use health-conscious closet.
* Registration of birth and death, blind, beggar and destitute.
* Manage all types of census.
